Joe Funk
Joe Funk has played videogames since the dawn of the era—sitting mesmerized for hours playing Pong, then the Atari 2600, then Intellivision with his brother before graduating to the incredibly powerful Apple II+ which game with 48K of RAM and was expandable to a whopping 64K of RAM. He started covering games in 1991 as an entry level editor at Electronic Gaming Monthly, the leading video games magazine of the 1990s, and worked his way up to be editorial director of the Ziff-Davis Game Group, where, among other things, he was a co-founder of videogames.com and the Official PlayStation Magazine. In the 2000s Joe has since written about games for companies including IGN, GameSpot, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, EA, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, Random House, Scholastic and many others—and was the author of the official history of Electronic Arts. He now has kids aged seven and four years old, still plays games, and is gradually introducing them to gaming.
