4 Baby Shoes Your Kid Will Actually Wear

4 Baby Shoes Your Kid Will Actually Wear

A couple weeks after hearing we were going to have a boy, I ran out and bought some tiny Nikes for the little guy. I’d have to wait nearly two years before he would be able to wear them, but I didn’t care. Obviously, I didn’t know much about sizing and baby shoes then. I do now, and I’m happy to share my newfound wisdom. If you are anything like me, you’ll be tempted to buy a bunch of cool-looking shoes. But baby feet are weird (read: FAT), and they don’t fit into shoes like you’d think.

I’ve broken down the stages our son went through. It’s not meant to be comprehensive, as all kids are different, although our son, of course, is perfect and probably a good standard from which to measure.

You can’t put real shoes on your new baby’s feet yet. You just can’t. They’re not going to be walking for a long time. Newborns only need socks, or socks that resemble shoes. Period. Now, there are a whole host of shoe companies out there that have socks with prints on them and sort of look like shoes. Here are a couple of fashionable options for the sock-only phase:

These are awesome because they are socks with various prints that mimic real shoes. The ones we bought were called ‘Skater Johnny’ and resembled little checkered Vans. We got many compliments when our son wore these socks. We even convinced the owner of a kid’s boutique store to purchase them. For under $30 you get six pair all packed into the little “Skater Johnny” shoe box seen in this picture.
