Ask a Pregnant Lady: Labor Contractions

Transcript: What do contractions feel like? For a man to compare, it’s hard, because you’ll never experience a contraction. But if you’ve ever been running and you get that side cramp and it’s like, oh, oh, and you have to stop running. It’s one of the bad ones. Think of that instead of it just being just on the side, being about twenty times worse to fifty times worse than that, but all over and into your back. And it comes in waves, so you can feel it starting to come like when you’re jogging, and then it gets so bad you have to stop running. And it kind of climbs and then it peaks, and then it dies down once you start walking. That’s kind of what a contraction does. It builds, builds, builds, builds, builds, peaks, and then descends. Descends, I think that’s the right word. And that’s what a contraction is, but it comes to a point where you can’t even breathe and all you can think about is holding your breath just to get through that wave of pain. It’s the most intense grip, throb, pain you could ever feel.
