New Parent Information Overload

New Parent Information Overload

The “baby niche” is a multi-billion-dollar industry, and it’s easy to see why. With over four million babies born each year in the United States alone, corporations have a never-ending supply of new parents (read, “fresh meat”) to market their products to.

But with big money comes big advertising budgets and even bigger hype…and this can spell bad news for new parents. Each and every baby product category has seemingly dozens of brands and models to choose from, each with its own specific features and each claiming to be the best. How are new parents (who are already time-deprived) expected to make an informed buying decision when there are so many options to consider?

My wife and I found ourselves paralyzed by this “baby product information overload” when we began researching the 60+ different infant car seat models currently on the market.

Out of necessity, I developed/stumbled on a “system of elimination” that allowed me to narrow down the unwieldy number of options down to a more manageable top three models in less than three minutes. I then took this system one step further by digging down and getting the information I REALLY needed about the narrowed-down options, instead of relying strictly on manufacturer and marketer claims.

All told, it took me less than one hour to be completely confident in my choice of the Chicco KeyFit 30 over the more popular (and better-selling) Graco SnugRide 35.

This system is not only easy to follow, it leverages the feedback provided by REAL owners of the product to give you the information you need to make an informed buying decision. And best yet, it doesn’t just work with car seats or baby products—the system can be used to compare ANY product in ANY market (I now use this system for every product purchase I make).

NEXT: The System
