5 Affordable Wines for Thanksgiving Dinner

In general, my philosophy on choosing wines for Thanksgiving is anything goes. There's so much variety on the Thanksgiving table that you're never going to find the perfect wine. And different styles of wine are going to complement different foods on the table. But as much as I tell people to buy whatever floats their boat, I still get people asking me to just tell them what to buy. And I get even more people asking me, "What's a really good, but not too expensive wine?" This is for those readers.
Here are some wine recommendations that are certain to be a hit at the Thanksgiving table. And a suggestion for each that won't break the bank.
Sauvignon Blanc
The tropical fruit and citrus flavors in sauvignon blanc will go fantastically with white turkey meat. Look for ones from Chile or New Zealand for the most intense fruit flavors.
Recommendation: 2010 Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc, $12.00
Pinot Grigio
Pinot grigio is known for being a crisp, clean wine. It doesn't have a lot of intensity to its flavors, but it does have a nice, crisp acidity. In a way, it works well to cleanse the palate between dishes. If you want a wine that won't compete with the food on the table, this is the way to go.
Recommendation: 2010 Tenuta Ca'Bolani Friuli Pinot Grigio, $12.99
NEXT: Pinot Noir
