I love exotic-tasting food, and since I do most of the cooking at home I’m always looking for new ways to make my dishes a little more interesting. Sprucing up the food you cook at home may make you less inclined to spend a lot of money at restaurants. When I decide to take the family out to dinner, it’s usually because I’m bored with everything that’s in the fridge or freezer. Introducing your kids to different flavors—curry, seaweed and saffron have all made their way onto my kids’ plates—at home is cheaper than doing it at a restaurant. And spouses and partners love guys who can cook well. Best of all, you don’t have to be a James Beard award winner to create some interesting variations on great dishes.
