Your Weekly Sandwich: Classic Club

Your Weekly Sandwich: Classic Club

It's the skyscraper of sandwiches, the ultimate lunch meal. The classic club isn't called "classic" by chance. It earned that title for being one of the most reliable sandwiches on the market. Whether you order this sandwich at a diner or attempt to make one yourself, it is a great go-to meal that always tastes good.

Everyone has their own recipe to make the classic club, but for me, it's all about the bacon. Bacon is the club's foundation, and you just can't have one without the other. I recently made this sandwich from a recipe on FoodNetwork.com, trying to mimic one I ate at a local restaurant, and although I was the one doing all the work, this sandwich turned out delicious and just as good as I remembered.

What you'll need:

  • 3 pieces of white or wheat bread
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 4 slices of tomato
  • 4 slices of turkey or ham
  • ½ cup of romaine lettuce
  • 1 tbsp. of mayonnaise
  • 2 cocktail swords

This sandwich is all about the layering, and since we are going for the double decker here, you want to first toast three pieces of bread and put a layer of mayonnaise, topping each bread slice. Then place a few pieces of lettuce on top of mayonnaise and begin the stacking.  After the lettuce, put on your slices of turkey or ham and then place the second piece of bread on top.

Layer that piece of bread with lettuce tomato and bacon, then top it off with a final piece of bread. To ensure this sky-high sandwich doesn't topple over, cut the sandwich in half and put a cocktail sword in each half. Pair this sandwich with chips or french fries, and this lunch is finished.
