Simple (and Tasty) Slow Cooker Recipes

A slow cooker or Crock-Pot can be a great way to prepare a hot meal without having to do a lot of complex cooking. Crock-Pot recipes typically require a little prep work, but not much, and you can do it ahead of time. Typically you just throw a few ingredients in the pot, turn it on and the food is ready hours later.

The benefits of this cooking method should be obvious to all busy parents. We can put together a meal and let it cook while we take care of other duties. We don't even have to think about it.

Here are a few easy slow-cooker recipes that even picky eaters will enjoy.

Soda Roast

Cooking a beef roast in a slow cooker is fairly straightforward, using simple ingredients that are usually on hand. You can put a two- to three-pound roast in a Crock-Pot, cover it with a can of cream-of-mushroom soup, a packet of onion-soup mix and a can of soda. The flavor of the soda is not terribly important; you can use regular or diet.

Flip the roast every so often and serve in slices or shred the meat to make sandwiches. You can also add vegetables such as carrots and potatoes.

Barbecued Pork

Another easy recipe involves a pork shoulder. Put the shoulder in a slow cooker with a chopped onion, 3 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and enough water to cover the meat. Cook the pork most of the day so that the water is drained, then shred the meat by pulling it apart with a fork. Add barbecue sauce (up to a bottle) and heat through for 45 minutes to an hour before serving.
