5 Kitchen Gadgets I Could Not Live Without

I love to cook and the kitchen has been my domain for as long as my wife and I have been together. For just as long, I have been obsessed with procuring kitchen tools and gadgets to make my life easier or at the very least more efficient.

Now this doesn’t mean that I troll late night infomercials and willingly purchase whatever wares Mr. T happens to be hawking these days. Rather, I keep it simple and follow the very important rule set forth by Alton Brown of Food Network fame – no unitaskers, except for a fire extinguisher.

With that in mind, I bring you the five kitchen gadgets I could not live without.

Robb P. Robb. Hummm think about it, A tool is a tool and a knife is a knife...It's ability is all in the hands of the user not the unneccessary expensive quality!!! - 06/22/2011
John H. This "article" is just a sales slideshow for these items. When was the last time you used a fat separator? I have one, and I drag it out on the rare holiday (I am not usually a gravy-type of person.). Usually skimming does the trick. Anyway, I spent about $35 on a Calphalon knife and it serves me quite well. Any cheese grater will do, although the extended feet on the box shredder is a good idea. I have several cutting boards, ranging from an 8x10" maple to a 14x20" teflon. Each serves its purpose in its own way. just my 2¢. - 03/25/2011
K D. A.T - Shun knives are the most magical thing on the planet. My 8" Shun chef's knife is well worth every penny of its $125. - 02/11/2011

A T. Uh... these don't sound very manly. How about a cast iron skillet, a blow torch and a can opener. Those are manly. and for $129 that knife better be able to decapitate a zombie in one slash - 01/19/2011
