Dad Chef Tool Kit for Fall

Dad Chef Tool Kit for Fall

Fall is the perfect time for piping hot dishes, pies, stews, soups and warm beverages. You can keep your family feeling cozy while everyone enjoys filling meals. Here are some tools you'll need to create your favorite cold-weather classics.

Big Tools

A food processor slices, grates and mixes just about any ingredient, and you'll need one to make your fall favorites. A mixer handles dough. These two essential appliances save you the time it takes to do any of these preparations manually.

A hand mixer is a useful tool for whipping up a quick meal or a snack. Some common uses of the hand mixer include making gravy and sauces, beating an egg for French toast or whipping up a dessert topping cream.

The fall season is the perfect time for some chicken and dumplings, a roast dinner, beef stew, or creamy chicken, and there is no better equipment for making these comfort foods than the slow-cooker or Crock-Pot. The ease of operation, the foolproof nature and overall simplicity makes the slow-cooker a must-have tool.

Small Tools

  • Set of knives ranging from a small paring knife to a large chef’s knife
  • Set of pans in assorted sizes. Fall cooking requires a copper or aluminum bottom to transmit heat and react to changes in the heat quickly
  • Set of different-sized bowls, preferably glass or aluminum. Plastic retain oils and odors that transfer to other ingredients
  • Grater to grate and shred fruits and vegetables
  • Peeler to peel the in-season apples and other fruits
  • Zester to remove the zest from citrus fruits
  • Sifter to aerate and remove lumps from flour and other dry ingredients
  • Whisk to fold ingredients into delicate mixtures
  • Kitchen timer to follow the time limits stipulated in a recipe
  • Pepper mill for freshly ground pepper
  • One quart and cup measuring glasses, and a set of measuring spoons

Also essential: a meat thermometer so you can check that the food has reached the right temperature before serving.
