CES 2011: Best New Gear of the Year - Most Innovative

There wasn't much innovation at the show this year, but I did see at least one kick-ass prototype. The Razer Switchblade is a small netbook computer designed to play PC games. Normally this would be kind of an absurd idea, but the thinking behind what they are doing is really innovative. First they made a miniature netbook that runs Windows 7. Then they put an LCD screen underneath the keyboard, allowing the appearance of the keys to change with whatever game or application you are using. So not only will the function of keys on the keyboard change with each game, but they will look different as well. And then they made the screen a touch screen, something necessary if you are really going to try to play games on a small device. The whole thing looked very slick and well done.

It was a prototype however, and as cool as it was they were just showing it behind a glass case (along with a video describing it). A lot of times these sorts of things shown at CES never make it to market, but if this one does it will be something to look out for.
