5 Android Game Apps You Need to Buy

One of the most popular “smart phone” operating systems available today is Android, and devices using it are often referred to simply by that name. Android owners tend to swear by them, usually while explaining why they're superior to rival iPhones. No question: The Android is a flexible and intuitive system with a lot of great qualities.

One of those qualities is its capacity for playing some very cool games. There are innumerable games by a variety of companies available for Androids—and more come out almost every day. Which ones deserve to be called the "best" comes down to matters of taste and preference, but here are some of the most popular at the moment (and the companies that produce them):

Angry Birds (Rovio Mobile): This probably is one of the best known and most popular of the fun Android games currently available. “It’s a physics-based game where you launch a limited amount of birds to kill pigs who are inside various structures,” says Robert Gruver of game retailer Yellow Dragon Studios. “Most of the time you have to destroy the structures to get to the pigs. It’s cute and well designed.” A number of expansions, such as “Angry Birds Rio,” are also available for it.

Caligo Chaser (Com2uS Corporation):This is a dungeon crawl role-playing game (RPG) with a basic storyline. “It’s not very deep story-wise, but the character leveling is deep and wide, which is very unusual for an Android game,” Gruver said. “You have quests that you get and move through the dungeons killing bosses and looting corpses. It has a huge skill system, something like 125 different combinations. It’s probably the best 99 cents I spent on a game for the Android!”

Peggle (PopCap Games): Inspired by Japanese pachinko arcade games, "Peggie" involves shooting a limited supply of balls at a field of colored pegs in an attempt to clear out specific ones, and many consider this to be its developer’s best offering. “The smarter you are, the better you can predict where the ball will bounce,” Gruver said. “It’s one of the few games that rewards you for being smart.”
