App of the Week: SimplyNoise

App of the Week: SimplyNoise

Staying completely focused throughout the work day can be a challenge. If your office is anything like mine, there are outside voices, the sound of ping pong balls hitting the table and the occasional dog barking under a desk. All of these sounds can be distracting—especially while writing. To curb these distractions and get down to business, I listen to white noise through the SimplyNoise app.

I'm listening to it right now as I write this piece. The $0.99 app is available on iPhone and Android markets and also has a website fully capable of playing three different-colored noises as well as downloadable soundscapes you can put right to your desktop. I particularly like the Thunderstorm Soundscape. I love the sound of rain, and this app just makes writing easier.

If you find yourself a bit distracted at work or at home, try out this app. It will put your mind at ease and help you get your work done a little bit faster.

Alex B. This is a great app and all, but the times I really need this are at my computer, and simplynoise.com provides the same service without the dollar. I guess if you really need to read something not on your computer or just to relax, the app is worth it, but I definitely wouldn't buy it just to stay focused at work. - 10/24/2011
