App of the Week: Zite

App of the Week: Zite

The iPad has a number of magazine-like apps to help you curate all your favorite reading—like ManoftheHouse.com. And I've tried just about all of them, but I haven't found any that continually improve in targeting my preferences like Zite.

Using my online social profiles and what I'm actually reading online, Zite tailors the news specifically to me. Other apps require you to manually enter the sites you want to read and then build content based on that. The more I use Zite, several times a day already, the better it understands and targets the articles I want.

Setting up the app is simple. Enter your Twitter username—no password needed—and add your Google Reader account and voilà, content begins to appear. If you don't use Twitter or Google Reader, you can still use the app by selecting the stories that interest you. The learning curve for Zite might be a bit longer without the extra information.

While other apps have a more polished look or are more visually stimulating, none will perform as well as Zite in providing you the content you want to read.
