5 Tips on Getting the Gadget Gifts You Want

5 Tips on Getting the Gadget Gifts You Want

With the holidays right around the corner, how do you, as a technology-craving dad, ensure that you get the gadget you want? There are probably quite a few ways to make sure that your tech-addiction is fulfilled during the holidays, and I have compiled five tips that may get you down that path to electronics acquisition a little bit easier.

1) Do a "Subtle Hint" Campaign

It's probably a bit late in the game to do this one well. You really should begin your hint campaign during the summer, so now you'll need to make up for lost time. Start by pointing out the deficiencies of the item you want to upgrade—let's say that it's an HDTV. While watching TV with the family, say things like "Wow, I know that on the new version of this TV, you can get Netflix or Hulu right from the interface" or "I sure wish I could connect more components to our TV, but unfortunately there are only two HDMI inputs—newer TVs have four!" My wife, for example, took a picture of something she wanted and posted it to her Facebook page saying "I hope my hubby sees this." I guess that hint really isn't subtle.

2) Put it on Your Amazon Wish List

Obviously, Amazon wants you to spend money with them, and that is part of the reason why they created a Wish List. Over the year, you should diligently be putting any gadget or electronic device on your wish list. Then, when it comes time for your friends and family to start shopping for you, you can share your list with them or point them to it. I have never tried this tactic so I would love to find out how well it works.

Bruce S. I have to buy my own gadgets, as my wife just doesn't get it/them. HOWEVER, she got me the best two presents this year so I'm completely FULL and so happy with them. They will literally last for me a lifetime! What you ask? A new and really gorgeous wedding band and a REAL grown-up watch! Both are keepers, just like she is! - 12/01/2011
