Best Video Games 2010: Shooter

Holiday shopping for the gamer in your life? Well, you're in luck, as this has been an awesome year to be an adult gamer. No matter what genre of games you're into, this year had several huge releases. Here are my picks for the best games of 2010.

Best Shooter

Call of Duty: Black Ops (Microsoft for Windows, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS) – If there's a FPS gamer on your holiday list, chances are good they picked this game up the moment it was released in November. However, if they haven't yet gotten the game, COD: Black Ops is a must-have. The single-player campaign game opens with an interrogation scene and doesn't let up from there. You play as several characters in the 1960's, conducting black-ops around the globe. While the single-player is great, most fans of the series buy COD for one reason only – the multiplayer experience, which is arguably the best around. One of the cool new games in the multiplayer, is the wager match called One in the Chamber, where you start off with one bullet – yes, you read that right, one, and are pitted against six other players. You each get three lives and one bullet each – he (or she) who lasts longest wins.

Next on my list: Best Space RPG

Mike D. You can't be serious. I have played just about every FPS out there and Call of Duty Black Ops was an incredible disappointment in terms of graphics and gameplay. The cut scenes are waaaay too long and utterly distracting with enough visual noise to make you sick. The worlds were way to contrived and the game seemed to have no coherence whatsoever. There was nothing memorable about the sound and nothing innovative about movement, enemy AI, or cutscenes that we haven't seen many times before. The interrogation came to be just tedious after a while and I actually stopped playing for about two months and returned to Battlefield Bad Company 2 as it is a much better game in so many ways. Multiple reviews confirm this as you can find through a simple Google search so I recommend to anyone reading this that they do a little background and review research before hand. COD Black Ops set FPS gaming backwards and it is frustrating to think a good marketing campaign can sell a game over quality of the experience itself. Must have?!? Get serious dude and get some more games under your belt before writing reviews on games based on your actual opinion rather than what you read somewhere. Feel free to write me at my email if you disagree as I would be happy to explain this to you in detail. - 06/19/2011
