Best Video Games 2010: Post-Apocalyptic

Holiday shopping for the gamer in your life? Well, you're in luck, as this has been an awesome year to be an adult gamer. No matter what genre of games you're into, this year had several huge releases. Here are my picks for the best games of 2010.

Best Post-Apocalyptic Game

Fallout: New Vegas (Microsoft for Windows, Xbox 360, PS3) – While you're waiting for game developer Bethesda to release the long-rumored Elder Scrolls 5, why not take a return trip to the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout?

If you enjoyed Fallout 3, you will enjoy Fallout: New Vegas, which released this fall. You play as a courier, who is shot and left for dead in a ditch. After your wounds heal, you try to piece the mystery of why you were shot, while navigating the varying political factions, each wanting control over the southwest. Then, of course, there's the mutant insects and creatures wandering the wasteland which seem even deadlier than in prior editions.

New Vegas plays pretty much like Fallout 3, and the open world seems just as large as the prior game. While the main story isn't as emotionally-driven as Fallout 3, it's still better than 90 percent of the games on the shelves this year. And given this year's strong releases, that's saying something!
