Family Video Games for Kids: Donkey Kong Country

When cold weather sets in, the family that plays together, stays together. So today we’ve created a wish list of titles the whole family can enjoy. Don’t let the cutesy graphics and technicolor palettes fool you. All of these games have a solid feel to them and are fun to play. As one might expect, this list is dominated by Nintendo and the Wii but there are plenty of worthy games for other consoles.
$49.99; Wii
Donkey Kong swings onto the Wii to barrel over a whole new generation of fans. A tribe of marauders cast a spell on Donkey Kong Island’s inhabitants and as you might imagine, this doesn’t sit well with Donkey Kong and his pint-sized pal Diddy Kong. Run, hop, jump, swing, ride and much more through lush jungle environments on your quest to find your beloved bananas.
This is what makes this game so great—adults will fondly remember older Mario and Donkey Kong games and the actions and movements required to play them. Muscle memory will quickly kick-in for those folks, allowing them to be a competent playing partner in short order while the kids…well…we all know they can pick up and play any new game way faster than us.
Next Game: Wii Party
