Family Video Games for Kids: Wii Party

When cold weather sets in, the family that plays together, stays together. So today we’ve created a wish list of titles the whole family can enjoy. Don’t let the cutesy graphics and technicolor palettes fool you. All of these games have a solid feel to them and are fun to play. As one might expect, this list is dominated by Nintendo and the Wii but there are plenty of worthy games for other consoles.
$49.99; Wii
The original Mario Party may be the precursor to the explosion of mini-games, which have since taken root on every digital platform from smart phones to Flash-based PC games. But Nintendo continues to pioneer this imaginable genre with Wii Party. By combining the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii controller with mini-games that include four players who can go head-to-head, cooperative, 2-on-2 or 1-on-3, playing Wii Party can be competitive, cooperative and even downright crazy. Most of the mini-games are super easy to learn, requiring just a motion or two, but can be difficult if not hilarious to master. Hands down (or up, to the left, or to the right) this title is one of the best multi-player games available.
