Garage Rehab for Spring

Every man knows that the garage is more than a place to park cars, build birdhouses and sort crescent wrenches. It usually doubles as a warehouse for bikes, golf clubs, tools, garden implements, car care items, paint, toys, pet food, cardboard boxes and an endless assortment of knickknacks, gadgets and junk.
Assuming that’s the case at your house, here are a few strategic maneuvers that’ll help make quick work of your “garage rehab” mission.
If Not Now, When?
Spring is the ideal time to spiff up your garage, especially if you live in a snow-belt area. Your car has been dripping melted snow and street grime onto the floor for months. Now that it’s all dried to dust, there’s an easy way to get it out…and then keep cleaning and organizing the garage.
- First, move everything out of the garage and into the driveway. This tactic seems drastic, but it’s not…and the benefits are invaluable.
- Once the garage is clear of stuff, it’ll take about two minutes to “sweep” it out using a leaf blower.
- As you’re putting items from the driveway back inside the garage, you’ll make some delightful discoveries:
- A lot of it can be thrown away or recycled.
- What’s left will fit back inside a lot better, and it will look marvelous.
- You’ll almost automatically organize things as you put them back in.
