Find a Home For Your Garden Hose

Find a Home For Your Garden Hose

At my house we had hose issues. You might think hoses aren't a big deal, and in the grand scheme, of course, they're not. But in the day-to-day scheme of things, they test my patience. I need solutions.

Kinky

One thing that absolutely wears me out is when I’m watering the flowers or washing the cars and all of a sudden nothing, no water pressure. It’s always the same thing—a kink in the hose, maybe two.

Okay, it’s a small matter. Lay down the nozzle, walk a few paces and untwist the hose. Yeah, but that done, the kink relieved, and here we go, the hose is snapping around like a Crazy Daisy. A man could get flailed. Well, I found a solution—hoses that will not kink or tangle, not around rocks, tires or lawn furniture. Makes me want to carry on like Dick Vitale: “Awesome, baby.”

Here’s my find: industrial strength garden hoses made by Mean Green and GatorHyde. They are tough as a rock road and the lightest premium garden hose on the market. They are commonly used by nurseries, landscapers, at golf courses, by contractors, homeowners and throughout industry.

They are also used, according to the manufacturer, by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow—for whatever that’s worth.

Mean Green and GatorHyde are PURE™ polyurethane garden hoses, not vinyl and polyester like most other hoses. There’s another plus. They are drinking-water safe, protecting people and animals from harmful substances sometimes found in other garden hoses. (If you’ve ever sipped from a standard hose on a hot day, you've experienced the odd taste of the water, almost medicinal, no matter how long you let it run. Won’t find that with Mean Green or GatorHyde.) They also lay flat, last for years and won’t crack or brittle even if they are left out in the elements.

As you might expect, they aren't cheap. They're available in 3/8-inch and ½-inch widths. The 3/8’s is offered from 15 feet in length at $28.99 to 50 feet at $57.99. The ½-inch hoses range from 25 feet ($28.95) to 200 feet ($129.57). Regardless of your needs around the house, this is a product that will make your life easier and more efficient. It’s money well spent and time saved.
