Dad Stuff: Toro Lawn Striping System

Dad Stuff: Toro Lawn Striping System

You're probably not mowing your lawn now that fall has fallen, but you might want to put this nifty gadget on your What-I-Want-for-Christmas list. The Toro Lawn Striping System attaches to the back of a walk-behind mower and can be used with or without a bag attachment.

Like the name says, it creates stripes in your lawn as you mow, bending the grass so that light reflects differently off of it, creating the striped look. You fill the roller with 16 to 20 pounds of sand and screw the bracket onto your mower. That's pretty much it. You can go with the classic straight stripes of baseball fields and golf courses, or, you can get more creative. The system comes with a guide that shows you how to make other types of patterns.

Here's a time-lapse video of a guy using the striper for the first time. His lawn looks great, and if the system helped me to cut the grass this fast, I'd be even more impressed. At $90 it's not exactly an impulse item, but it seems like it will be a fun toy to have next summer, as long as I can keep my neighbors from borrowing it.
