6 Common Tools Every Man Needs

I'm sure it's not news to you that every man needs a box full of tools for doing basic fix-ups around the house. If you don't have them, or if your collection is a mixed bag of assorted items, you'll want to assemble a useful collection. Building a proper tool set doesn't have to be terribly expensive, and it will save you the money you'd spend on hiring someone to do the work for you. Of course, you can build as elaborate a collection as you want, but here we'll look at some of the most basic, must-have items for stocking a tool box.
Screwdriver
This is so basic I almost feel silly including it here, but the screwdriver deserves top billing because it'll be the most used tool in your collection. You should own a good one or a set that includes different sizes of Phillip's-head and flathead screwdrivers. I prefer the kind with the bits in the handle so all you have to do is swap them. Also, I highly recommend a ratchet-style screwdriver to make things easier. A rechargeable power screwdriver is good to have, but it's useless if you leave it unplugged for too long.
Power Drill
You can buy a basic power drill for about thirty bucks and use it to hang pictures, or you can spend hundreds of dollars for an industrial-grade model that can be used to build a house. Having a drill handy also allows you to change the bits to turn it into a power screwdriver. Even if you don't think you need one, you'll find ways to use your drill after you buy it.
Socket Set
You never know when you might have to install or remove a bolt of some random size, and that's why you should have a decent socket set handy. Your best bet would be to get one of those giant sets available most anywhere tools are sold. Be sure that the set includes metric sockets. If you don't have the right socket for the job, then you'll be forced to use pliers or an adjustable wrench and that makes the task much tougher than it ought to be.
