Summer Dates Your Wife Will Love

Summer Dates Your Wife Will Love

Married men are tame dogs; trust me, I'm one of them. Yet sometimes my wife needs to see the more romantic side of our life together. I'm sure the same is true of yours. Recapture the romance you two have shared. Try some of these ideas for a date night on those hot summer nights.

Backyard Picnic

Get your place ready for a backyard picnic like no other. Decorate your backyard with simple things such as a fake palm tree, or even some tiki torches. Not only do the torches work for mood lighting, but they'll also keep the bugs away. Fix your wife's favorite meal, pop open a bottle of wine and imagine yourself half a world away on some tropical island. Get a CD of some beach sounds, and later switch to some Hawaiian music to enhance the atmosphere. Use this night to fall in love all over again. The beauty of this plan is that if the kids need you for anything, you're already at home. Plus your bedroom is nearby.

Hike and the Like

If you're both active and outdoorsy, exploring a nature area you've never seen before is something new and exciting to do for a date. Whether you walk, bike, drive or camp overnight, the outdoors brings romance back into your lives. Taking the kids is great if they enjoy the outdoors. Scenic drives can always do them some good to see the glory of nature. You can make this event as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. A hike to a local cave or waterfall can be done in as little as two hours. Prearrange the babysitting. When your wife wakes up or gets home from work, just say, "Honey, we're going somewhere new." Go be one with nature and each other for as long as you both desire.

Museum Musings

An art museum is a perfect place for a rendezvous with your wife. Art can be inspiring and tug at your emotions all at once. Museums have the benefit of being quiet and you can walk around at your pace and largely undisturbed. Pick a time when it won't be as crowded so you can be afforded some extra privacy. Simply talking about what each of you sees in the art will help you get to know each other even better than you already do. You may even learn something about your wife that you didn't know before. You don't need to stop and stare at every piece in the museum; the beauty of this kind of date is that you can see things at your own pace. If you can't leave the kids at home, this can be a learning experience for them, too. Talk to your children about what art means. Ask them later what their favorite pieces of art were.

The point of taking your wife on a date is to get to know her better, the rest is just details. Getting to know your wife is priceless and memorable. Trust me, she will thank you for it many times as you look back over your marriage together.
