3 Just Because Gifts Your Girlfriend Will Love

Don't wait until you screw up to get a gift for your girlfriend or wife. Small "just because" gifts can foster a lot of goodwill, which is particularly important if you're living with someone. I don't spend all my time trying to find gifts for my girlfriend, but an occasional gift for no reason is a nice gesture that can make the relationship more fun—plus, she's gotten into the habit of doing the same.
Here are a few "just because" gift ideas that you can get for your girlfriend or wife without needing a reason.
Dinner. You really don't have to do much to be an awesome, hardworking guy to her; just cook dinner. I always try to pick a dish that seems expensive, because that way she'll be impressed by both the fact that I'm giving her something and that I can cook without setting the kitchen on fire. If you're stuck for recipes, you might try yellow chicken curry or go old-school with homemade baked macaroni and cheese.
Socks. Socks? Really? That's the best you could come up with? Well, socks are comfortable, and you can get a big pair of thermal socks for your girlfriend for a few bucks. The purpose of a good gift is to get something that a woman wouldn't buy for herself. Most practical women won't spend $10 to $20 on a single pair of socks, but for that kind of money you can get some of the nicest socks she's ever worn. Try SmartWool socks. They'll keep her feet warm in the winter, and she'll think about you every time she puts them on (so be sure to buy the right size).
Sweets. You know what's cheap? Ice cream and candy. You know what women like? Well, really, everyone likes ice cream and candy, and this is another case where a few bucks will go a long way. Order online from a place like The Ice Cream Source, or simply head over to your local grocery store and get some great, delicious food. You can't go wrong unless she's dieting—seriously, make sure she isn't dieting first. Otherwise, you'll be using the ice cream to ice your head.
And when she asks why the special gift or spontaneous meal, your simple answer should be: "just because."
