7 Rules to Be a Good Friend

Bro, companion, pal, buddy: no matter what you call them, friends makes us who we are. Whether it’s your old fraternity brother from college or a neighbor you knew since you could first tie your shoe laces, you have those people in your life who just get it. They make the weekends worth the five-day workweek and are right beside you at every baseball game.
A friend is…well, chances are, your response and my response will be radically different. Men and women just think differently when it comes to friendships. I guess I would never consider, “being ready to go to battle” as a friend requirement, but you guys made me second-guess it. And I’m not talking about a Bromance either; I’m talking about through thick and thin, “I love you, man” type of male bonding friendships. So I rounded up some opinions on friendship from guys to create the "7 Rules," which I have to say are different than for women.
Rule #1: Have his back
Remain loyal to your friend even when he acts like an idiot.
Rule #2: The non-compete clause
Don’t compete or be a topper. There is no reason to one-up your friends with all those lines you have on the resume.
Rule #3: Pick up the tab
Always pick up the tab for your share. You don’t want to constantly sponge money, drinks or meals off your friends.
Rule #4: Be there
Make the time to hang out. Respect those commitments and just be there. No matter how much you don’t want to go to your best friend’s kid’s first birthday party, just be there.
NEXT: Don’t date your friend’s exes
