Fresh findings from science around the world to help make you an even better dad.
Perhaps You Need to Gossip More at Work.
We’ve all been taught to turn our nose up and away from gossip. But we may have this wrong. In a study to be published soon in "Social Psychology and Personality Science," researchers were able to demonstrate how gossip actually reduces the prevalence of self-serving behavior. In other words, if you work with a bunch of gossip hounds, odds are you and everyone else is less likely to misbehaveāÆfor fear that you’ll become the person everyone is talking about.
Want to Look Sexier? Buy Her Flowers.
Women love flowers. We all know that. But a recent study published in "Social Influence" (Vol. 6, Issue 2) proves why you should like them, too. In one experiment, women were asked to watch a videotape of different men. Women who were exposed to flowers while they watched rated the men more attractive and sexy. In a companion experiment of interest to single dads, women who were exposed to flowers were more likely to accept an invitation to go out on a date.
Teenager See, Teenager Do.
Research that’s soon to be published in the journal "Appetite" indicates that teen girls are more apt to purchase higher calorie (and, by implication, less healthy) foods when the girlfriend they’re shopping with is buying crappy food. Yet another piece of evidence, as if we need it, that who your teen daughter hangs out with makes a difference.
