5 Famous Regular Guys

We picked five guys who have mastered the art. We’re not talking man-crush here, just dudes who look like dudes without getting all duded-up.

  1. Russell Crowe. Chicks dig him, and guys feel like, if they met him at a bar, he’d be great company. It’s not so much what he wears as that he doesn’t seem conscious of what he’s wearing. Whether his hair is long or short, whether his face is bewhiskered or clean-shaven, he looks like a guy who, despite fame and fortune, long ago got over himself.
  2. Joe Mauer. When it comes to looking natural, Joe Mauer is Roy Hobbs—a classic Regular Joe. His fashion sense borders on dork-chic, but he manages to make it work. Baseball’s best hitter looks like he’d come to your backyard bbq, talk about everything but Joe Mauer, and even lose gracefully at Cornhole.
  3. Jason Mraz. Okay, authenticity is part of this singer/songwriter’s personal brand, but his workshirts and signature hats—from ball caps to plaid trilbies—appear to be mere extensions of himself. What you see is what you get and that’s exactly who he is. Not so much as a whiff of sham around this crooner.
  4. Sebastian Junger. Sure the chiseled features and brooding stare, not to mention the literary success, would help him look good in a clown suit. But Junger also projects an intense passion about the world and the people he writes about. His ubiquitous blue button-downs probably do augment his eyes, but the shirt always seems like it was the only clean one in his closet that day.
  5. George Stephanopoulos. A classic case of “It’s not what you wear but how you wear it.” We rarely see him out of a suit. He’s a politico turned news commentator—two vocations known more for vanity and venality than veracity. And yet this guy looks like the real deal. He also manages to strike a balance between the perfect suit and imperfect hair—which always is just a little messed up.

So before you go searching for new clothes, do some soul-searching. When you’re comfortable with yourself, your clothes will look comfortable on you. And that’s what cool is all about.
