5 Mens Fashion Tips for Spring Weather

Spring, for all its glory, is the most unpredictable time of year in terms of weather, which makes dressing for each day a particular challenge. Days can break sunny and warm but turn ugly by noon. It's also the time of year when people want to get outside, socially and even for business.

To be prepared for any weather or occasion, you need to learn the art of universal attire. Here are some tips that will ensure you're always dressed appropriately.

Sartorial Sense – Choosing a Fabric

Natural fabrics, such as cotton, provide a lot of flexibility. Cotton breathes better than synthetic or blended fabrics, so even if you're wearing a long-sleeve shirt, you should be able to stay cool. Cotton khaki pants won't look out of place at an impromptu backyard happy hour even if most of the guests are wearing shorts.

Top Clothing Advice for Social Situations

Think about what’s in your wardrobe. If you have shopped smart over the years, you should have a good collection of thick cotton pants, lightweight shirts with sleeves that can easily be rolled up, and versatile “add-ons” like ties and jackets. More modern variations of these clothes--a look that is timeless for a reason--might be the inclusion of compact zips that allow you to turn a pair of smart trousers into a nice pair of shorts.

That said, the following items are never appropriate:

  • Jogging pants
  • Anything with a sports team emblem or logo. We all love sports, but there is genuinely no need to turn up at meetings in a pair of Dallas Cowboys sweat pants.
