Mustaches

It's hard to believe it's that time of year again, but Movember is right around the corner. Time to start limbering up your upper lip and get ready to ready to raise some cash for men's health.

I went into last year's Movember with a shocking naivete. Here I thought all I needed to do was stop shaving and I'd be good, right? Wrong, my friends. It's like they say: preparation goes a long way toward success. I wasn't prepared and ended up looking like a mutant caterpillar had crawled onto my face and died in a sticky mass of poorly shaped shame. After clearing this off last year, I vowed that never again would I approach mustachery with such blase disregard.

If you're growing a mustache, you need to know not only how to do it, but what you're going for. Not knowing the look you're trying to achieve is like wandering aimlessly through the desert without a destination or direction. To help everyone out—myself included—I turned to the experts at The American Mustache Institute for style guidance and have prepared this little review.

Go forth and grow my friends. It's for a good cause.

John B. What about the Wilford Brimley? Any man can realize his boyhood fantasy of being a Wild West cowboy or an italian fruit peddler when he sports a walrus. - 10/30/2011

Craig H. Nice catch. Thanks Mike. - 09/15/2011
Mike D. There's also a subtle difference between a career ERA of .290 and 2.90, but an important one. - 09/15/2011
